The Federation of Canadian Municipalities will develop and lead an intensive and groundbreaking programming stream within GLOBE Forum 2022, focused on local solutions to achieve Net Zero.

OTTAWA – A net-zero emissions future for Canada requires on-the-ground leadership and community action. That is why the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is proud to announce a new partnership with GLOBE Forum 2022 to deliver a municipal-focused program stream at the upcoming GLOBE Forum in February 2022.

In this first-of-its-kind partnership for FCM and GLOBE, sustainability leaders from cities and communities across Canada will join leading change-makers to outline a vision for local pathways to net-zero emissions from buildings, energy, transportation and waste.

“FCM is the national voice for more than 2,000 municipalities, and we represent an order of government that is a mighty force when it comes to sustainable practices,” said Carole Saab, Chief Executive Officer of FCM. “This partnership with GLOBE will bring cutting-edge municipal tactics and insight to an audience of sustainability practitioners and potential partners unlike anything we have attempted before.”

FCM’s Local Solutions to Net Zero track will focus on high-impact areas where municipalities have an essential role to play: buildings, energy, transportation and waste. Within these topics, this stream will showcase local innovation that can be accelerated and scaled up, as well as explore implementation challenges related to procurement, governance and regulation—all of which require new partnerships with the private sector and unprecedented cooperation between orders of government. Participants will have the opportunity to meet and interact with municipal practitioners and elected officials, technology providers and leading thinkers on community sustainability on-site at the Vancouver Convention Centre and via virtual livestream. FCM’s municipal stream presents a set of tangible local pathways that will enable Canada, and the world, to achieve a net-zero emissions future

“Municipalities are at the heart of a transition to net zero, and play a critical role in both dealing with the impacts of climate change and shaping how we decarbonize,” said Elizabeth Shirt, Managing Director of GLOBE Series. “Collaboration will empower us to go further and faster on the road to net zero, so we are thrilled to be partnering with FCM at GLOBE Forum 2022. Bringing this important community together, both in Vancouver and virtually, will drive actions, innovations and impacts that live well beyond the event.”
