North Shore Governments Team Up for “Efficient New Home Zone”

Energy Stepcode

As of today—following a final procedural vote set for this evening—the three local governments on the North Shore of the Lower Mainland will all be on the same page, at least as far as building performance goes.
As of July 1, the District of West Vancouver, the City of North Vancouver, and the District of North Vancouver will require that all Part 9 new-home builders meet the requirements of Step 3 of the BC Energy Step Code.
Starting on Canada Day, all new low-rise condos, town homes, and houses built between Deep Cove and Horseshoe Bay will be healthier, more comfortable, and more affordable to heat. The move effectively creates an “Efficient New Home Zone” across the North Shore. All builders and developers working in the region will be using a common approach on energy efficiency, using the “shared language” of the BC Energy Step Code.
Meanwhile, over on Vancouver Island, the City of Victoria and the District of Saanich are exploring a similar approach, and have proposed a consistent standard between both municipalities.
