Today FCM announced two new programs
that will provide funding, training and knowledge sharing to help Canadian municipalities like yours take action on climate change and strengthen infrastructure planning and decision-making. The programs are funded by the Government of Canada.
Addressing climate change
The Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program
can help your community adapt to the realities of climate change, such as extreme storms, colder winters, hotter summers, rising sea levels, flooding and drought. It also provides support to help municipalities reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and tackle the root causes of climate change.
This initiative will provide funding for plans, studies and more for a variety of projects, such as incenting greener forms of transportation and generating energy from landfill. It will also help your municipality build technical expertise through training and information sharing opportunities.
Enhancing infrastructure planning
The Municipal Asset Management Program
can help your municipality strengthen asset management practices and make informed decisions about your community’s infrastructure—from roads, to bridges, to wastewater systems.
The program will ensure your municipality can deliver the services your residents need and want at costs they can afford. It will offer training and workshops on best practices, as well as funding to assist with the planning, data management and analysis necessary to plan effectively for long-term infrastructure needs.
More details coming soon
Funding for plans and studies offered through the Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program will be available in early 2017. Stay tuned for updates in the coming months as we release more information on the Municipal Asset Management Program.
